Media Release:

Victoria have completed a clean sweep of all three titles after defeating defending champions New South Wales in a gripping grand final showdown at the 2026 Australian Interstate Teams Matches at Glenelg Golf Club.

After a commanding 6.5-1.5 win over New South Wales in the final round-robin match to secure both the men’s and women’s titles, the two sides met again in the grand final, where Victoria prevailed 6-2 in a thrilling contest that saw five matches go to the 18th hole and another require two extra holes to be decided.

It marks Victoria’s third overall title in the fifth edition of the combined event, adding the 2026 crown to championships won in 2024 and 2022, while continuing the alternating trend with New South Wales, who claimed the other two titles in 2025 and 2023.

Victoria women’s captain Jazy Roberts became a two-time Interstate Teams champion after also winning in 2024, remaining undefeated throughout the week after defeating Ella Scaysbrook on the 20th hole to help seal the title in what is expected to be her final appearance before likely turning professional later this year.

“It’s very exciting,” Roberts said.

“We knew that if we played well enough we could get into the final and then to go out there and win is really nice.”

Roberts and Scaysbrook entered the grand final undefeated after winning all four of their round-robin matches, setting up a blockbuster clash between the World Amateur Golf Ranking No. 41 and No. 63 respectively.

The match ultimately came down to a birdie on the 20th hole.

“It was pretty intense, but we were still talking to each other, we were pretty relaxed,” Roberts said.

“We’re really good friends and we do a lot of travel together, so it can be a little bit awkward when you’re out there and you’re trying to absolutely beat each other, but it was a really close match.”

Her performance was made even more impressive given she entered the week underdone after slicing her finger with a chef’s knife at work, an injury that required hospital treatment and prevented her from swinging a club for two weeks.

Roberts only resumed hitting balls three days before the tournament began.

“I think I played pretty solid for the preparation that I had,” she said.

“I hadn’t really been playing golf for the last two or three weeks after an injury, so it’s a big confidence boost to know that I can still do that despite not having much practice.”

Victorian men’s captain Abel Eduard also claimed his second Interstate Teams title after being part of the 2024 winning side.

Eduard’s final against Kayun Mudadana went down to the wire, with Mudadana holding the advantage for much of the match before Eduard rallied late to secure the point for Victoria.

“It got tight down the end, but we knew that I was hitting it good enough and it was going to be tight, but I thought I had the game there,” Eduard said.

“It was maybe more intense than what me and Kayun’s vibe is normally.

“I’ve travelled overseas with him and I consider him a good friend of mine, but today there were slightly less jokes. We were still having fun and at the end of the day we’re still mates and it’s just golf.”

Seabil Leong also became a two-time champion, while Amelia Harris claimed her third Interstate Teams title after previously being part of Victoria’s victorious 2022 side.

Five players - all from the women’s competition - finished the round-robin stage undefeated.

Roberts, Scaysbrook, Amanda Gan (WA) and Kortni Houston (WA) each won four matches, while Stephanie Keylock (SA) recorded five wins.

Western Australia recovered strongly after an 0-2 start, winning their final three matches and closing with a 5.5-2.5 victory over South Australia to secure third place on three points, finishing just half a point behind New South Wales.

South Australia showed early promise with two opening-day wins to sit among the leaders, but were unable to add another victory and finished fourth overall on home soil.

Queensland secured their first win of the week in the final round, sweeping Tasmania 8-0 to leave the Tasmanians winless, and finished fifth on 1.5 points after opening the week with a draw against New South Wales.

Victoria finished the men’s competition undefeated on 4.5 points, one full point clear of second-placed Western Australia.

In the women’s competition, Victoria defeated New South Wales 3-1 in the morning round to finish level on four team points, ultimately claiming the title thanks to a narrow edge in individual matches won, 14-6 compared to NSW’s 13.5-6.5.
